Here you too are generally assumed to take more responsibilities as you grow up, but you're also assumed to get more socially closed as you grow up, so being comfortable with strangers, eye contact, phone calls, etc is seen as a kid thing. And different cultural connotations are ok. What makes me mad, mostly, is when people around my physical age try to justify their lack of efficiency by saying they don't feel like an adult. There is a comic going around the net, of relatives pushing their 20+ daughter to do something, and her crying "But I'm just a child!"
